Terrorism has now become a world-wide phenomenon. Not only U.S.A., England, Russia or but developing countries like India, Spain, Sudan, Northern Island, Ireland, Egypt, Iraq, Palestine, Israel, Phillippines, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka etc. are living in the shadow of terrorism. The terrorist-attacks by air in New York, Washington of Mumbai have raised a burning question again and the president of america, the prime minister of india and Dr. Man Mohan Singh have announced it ot be the war of the twenty first century. September 11,2001 and december 26,2008 are cosidered to be ‘Black’ days in U.S.A. , India and other civilized countries. Russia had also forced the acts of terrorism on innocent people in Chechyna.
the conditions for rise of terrorism are found in many parts of the India. Terrorism finds suitable environment in the States situated near the international borders. Many of the terrorist groups are active in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat and Rajasthan etc because they are receving direct or indirect support from Pakistan etc whereas the terrorist of North-East are getting covert and overt support from the bangladesh and Mynamar. many a times, terrorists were also active in nagaland, tamil nadu , west bengal, bihar and andhra pradesh etc.
It is quoted that a terrorist is the enemy of whole humanity and he cannot be considered to be the follower of any religion. Terrorism is an undeclared war.Terrorists who are extremists generally get arms, ammunitions, training, strategic and financial support from the groups of community on whose behalf they wage the war and take the arms in their hands in order to challenge the authorities. Terrorists are just like spurious growth in a garden, which must be completely uprooted.
Terrors attacks are generally adopted in the forms of extortions , high jackins, assassinations,abductions, kidnappings and murders, by which the terroritsts attract the attention to a particular target to terrorise the people and compel the concerned authority to fulfill their unjustified demands. They are adopting these tactics against vvips their relatives or innocent public walking in public places, markets etc and travelling in trains, buses or aeroplanes etc. They use to destroy public or private properties by bomb-blasts . They are even ready to die as human-bombs. None can predict where the terrorists will strike next and in what form. They operate terrorism in clandestine manner, which makes it difficult to arrest them.
In India, Mrs Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi , Sant harchand singh Longowal, Gen A.S. Vaidya, and several police and miliatary personnel were assassinated by terrorists . They alos abducted the daughter of the then Home Minister Mufti Mohd. Saeed to black-mail the government. In abroad, there had been cruel attempts on the llives of Mrs. Margaret Thatcher, Jayerdene, Premadasa and Benazir bhutto etc.
Genrally, crusades, crazy perons, crimanls and unemployed poor youth use to join the groups the terrorism in the thirst of money and lust of power. Religious and racial fanatics as also political frustrations are the main reasons of terrorism. So far as India is concerned, the external powers, encourage terrorism for creating instability in certain regions because they do not tolerate the emergence of India as a powerful nations in the third world.
Terrorism creates insecurity in the minds of the people at large. If not only attacks on the democratic system of Government but also puts hurdles in economic development of the country. The extremists only believe in the violence and destruction.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the main terrorist groups are Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, Kashmir, Liberation Army and Lashkar Toyba etc. being supported by Pakistan are vital challenges before the Government of India. In Assam, ULFA is the major terrorist organisation. In TamilNadu, there has been the terror of Tamil Tigers. In the same way. IN Nagaland and Mizoram, there is terror of naga national council and Mizo national front respecitvely, in western bengal and Adhra Pradesh Nexelite Organisation is active. In Punjab, Militant groups of Sikhs Babbar Khalsa, Sikh Federation and Dashmesh Regiment are pressing for an independent Khalistan which can be traced to the rise of Bhindrawala.
In India apart from external forces, there are internal causes also for terrorism. The problem of unemployment of youth is one of major causes of terrorism. Some times, corrupt politicians also fulfill their vested interests by the help of extremists. People have now begun to think that democratic means and principles of non-violence, major change is not possible. the youth of the present era are not only unemployed, but are impatient, violent, self-centrered, indecisive and frustrated. They are not hopeful to get social justice. Therefore, some of the youths have indulged in the vocations of manufacture and transportation of arms and narcotic drugs and they have also joined the terrorist-organisations . It is difficult to negotiate with the terrorists because of lack of unity among differnt groups of terrorists and negotiation is considered to be surrender.
